What Happens at Círculo Latino
Facilitators lead conversation entirely in Spanish in a warm, non-judgmental setting. Typical themes include family, health, stress, belonging, and navigating systems in a second language. Members share practical information about local resources, and learn how Shanti's counseling, case management, and HIV programs can help when needed.
You do not need to be enrolled at Shanti to attend. The circle exists so Spanish speakers can find community first and choose clinical services later.
Why a Spanish-Only Space Matters
Many health settings offer translation, but translation is not the same as cultural familiarity. Círculo Latino centers Latino experience: respect, humor, family dynamics, and the weight of stigma. For people living with or affected by HIV, that context can make difficult topics easier to voice.

Connection to Shanti Services
After attending, you may choose to:
- Start mental health counseling (telehealth statewide; in person in Laguna Hills)
- Meet an HIV case manager if you are living with HIV/AIDS
- Join the HIV therapy group if clinician-led weekly sessions fit your goals

English-Speakers Supporting Loved Ones

Abierto de verdad
Vale la pena repetirlo porque mucha gente asume lo contrario: no necesitas ser cliente de Shanti. No necesitas un diagnóstico, ni seguro, ni referencia. Cualquier persona de habla hispana es bienvenida.
Es el único servicio de Shanti que funciona así. La consejería individual, la evaluación psicológica y el grupo de terapia de VIH pasan por admisión y tienen costos asociados. Círculo Latino no.
Si necesitas más que un grupo
El grupo es comunidad, no tratamiento clínico. Si lo que buscas es terapia individual, Shanti ofrece consejería en español con tarifas de $65 (terapeuta no licenciado) o $100 (licenciado), y trabaja con muchos planes de seguro incluyendo CalOptima, para los servicios elegibles. La telesalud está disponible en todo California.
También hay manejo de casos de VIH, que conecta a los clientes con atención médica y dental, farmacia especializada, vivienda, asesoría de beneficios, asistencia financiera de emergencia y nutrición.

You are welcome to help someone get there, and then let the room be theirs. The value of a Spanish-only space is precisely that it is not mediated, so sitting in to translate would undo the point.
If you want your own support, Shanti offers individual, couples, and family counseling in English, Spanish, Farsi, and Hindi.
