Our HIV therapy group is a weekly, clinician-led group for adults living with HIV/AIDS. Guided by a licensed therapist, it offers a structured, confidential setting to process the emotional realities of living with HIV alongside others on the same path. Unlike open peer support groups, this is a clinical group, meaning the therapist actively guides the work, and members make a commitment to attend regularly.
- A licensed therapist facilitating every session
- A small, consistent group of members you get to know over time
- Structured space to process the emotional weight of living with HIV
- Coping skills you can use between sessions
- Connection to Shanti's broader care team and case management
- A confidential setting with clear group agreements
What happens in group therapy
Group therapy is different from a peer support group. A licensed therapist facilitates each session, guiding conversations with clinical intention, not just providing a space to vent, but actively helping members build insight, work through patterns, and develop skills.
Because members attend regularly and get to know each other over time, the group itself becomes a therapeutic tool. Giving and receiving feedback from people who share your diagnosis creates a kind of understanding that's hard to find elsewhere.
Who this group serves
- Adults living with HIV/AIDS experiencing depression, anxiety, or grief
- People newly diagnosed who want support navigating a life change
- Long-term survivors managing the cumulative stress of chronic illness
- Anyone who wants more than peer support, and structured clinical guidance
How to join
By intake. Contact our team to start a brief intake process. We'll confirm the group is the right fit before you join. This ensures the group stays safe, consistent, and effective for everyone in it.
- How is this different from individual therapy?
- Individual therapy is one-on-one with a clinician. This group meets with a therapist and a small number of peers all living with HIV/AIDS, and the shared experience is part of what makes it effective. Many members participate in both.
