Shanti Orange County has served neighbors since 1987 because donors, volunteers, and community partners keep the doors open. Here is how you can help, at any scale.

Financial Gifts

Shanti is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization (EIN 33-0236592). Fundraising copy notes roughly 89% of each dollar reaches programs directly.

What donations fund:

  • $100: about one week of case management
  • $250: about one month of group therapy for ten clients
  • $500: about one month of individual mental health counseling for five people
  • $1,000: about one month of educational seminars and outreach

Monthly giving

Legacy copy invites Caring Heart monthly donors. Steady gifts help payroll for counselors and case managers between grant cycles.

Corporate and Foundation Support

Grants from organizations like Cox Communications, Pacific Life Foundation, Weingart Foundation, and Wells Fargo have appeared in Shanti materials. If you represent a foundation, contact leadership about HIV navigation, teen mental health, or Spanish-language outreach.

Volunteer and Intern Opportunities

Volunteers extend group facilitation, events, and administrative capacity. Explore pathways via Support us and Shanti's community announcements. Call (949) 452-0888 if you are unsure which role fits your skills.

Non-Monetary Support

  • Share Articles, especially HIV testing and first-visit guides
  • Point schools to Community education requests
  • Leave reviews and social follows: @ShantiOC on Facebook
  • Refer neighbors to intake when someone is struggling. A warm introduction changes lives

Planned Giving and Events

Legacy materials mention planned giving, event sponsorship, and corporate partnerships. Contact the organization for current campaigns; celebration events and fundraisers rotate yearly.

Transparency

Review audited financials via the mirrored Audited financials page for accountability before large gifts.

If You Need Services, Not a Donation

Looking for care for yourself? Go to First visit instead. Supporting Shanti and receiving care are both acts of community: different doors, same house.

Where a Dollar Goes

Every dollar keeps a counselor in the room, a case manager on the phone, and an educator in a classroom. That is not a slogan so much as a description of the cost structure: Shanti Orange County runs four programs and two support groups out of one Laguna Hills location.

The parts that are free to the community are free because they are funded. Círculo Latino, the monthly Spanish-language circle, costs attendees nothing. The AB-329 sexual health education delivered to Orange County high schools and colleges costs those schools nothing. Low-cost counseling fees of $65 and $100 sit well below market rate by design.

Donations are what hold that gap open.

Volunteering and Interning

Shanti takes volunteers and interns, including counseling practicum placements, event support, and community outreach. For graduate clinicians, a practicum here means supervised experience with chronic illness navigation and LGBTQ-affirming practice, which is a specific and not widely available training environment.

The Shanti Ambassador program is its own path: individuals living with HIV/AIDS who speak in schools alongside a sexual health educator.

Transparency

Independent audited financial statements from recent fiscal years are published on the site as PDF downloads. If you want to see where the money goes before giving, the documents are there rather than available on request.

Corporate, Foundation, and Event Support

Sponsorship opportunities exist around Shanti's events, and corporate and foundation partners can support program work directly. The office can walk through current options; these change year to year, so a page is a worse source than a conversation.

The 1987 Argument

Shanti Orange County was founded in 1987, at the height of the HIV crisis, and has been operating continuously since. The referral relationships, the clinical specialization, and the community trust that make the programs work were built over nearly four decades and cannot be reconstituted quickly.

That continuity is the actual asset a gift protects.
