Jeremy AncaladeChair
Shanti OC's board of directors is an all volunteer board of community members passionate about our mission Jeremy Ancalade is a proud husband, father, nonprofit executive, and community builder who currently serves as Board Chair of Shanti Orange County. Known for leading with both purpose and humor, Jeremy has built his career around strengthening organizations, bringing people together, and advancing work that meaningfully improves lives. His leadership is grounded in a deep commitment to equity, access, and affirming care, ensuring that every individual is seen, supported, and empowered to live authentically. In his professional roles as Vice President of Administration for the Downtown Long Beach Alliance and Executive Director of The Downtown Difference, Jeremy oversees strategic initiatives that support a more vibrant, inclusive, and connected community. His career spans leadership roles across nationally recognized nonprofits, including The Trevor Project, Project Angel Food, and Laguna Playhouse, where he earned a reputation for building strong teams, creating sustainable systems, and guiding organizations through growth and change. A dedicated volunteer, Jeremy serves on the board of Pathways, supporting compassionate care for individuals and families navigating illness, grief, and aging. He also contributes to youth leadership development through the American Legion California Boys and Girls State program, mentors as a member of the CSULB MBA Advisory Board, and speaks at the Lakewood Leadership Academy, sharing practical insights on nonprofit leadership, self care, governance, and community impact. Jeremy holds both a Master of Business Administration and a Master of Fine Arts from California State University Long Beach, as well as a Bachelor of Arts from Loyola University New Orleans. He is passionate about service, mentorship, creating spaces where people feel they belong, and is driven by a simple goal to leave every organization and every person better than he found them.
Trisha BurkeSecretary
Trisha has spent the last 12 years working in HIV therapeutic sales and education for Johnson & Johnson (J&J) throughout Southern California. Prior to her time at J&J, she earned an MBA at USC where she completed projects in a wide range of areas, from Social Entrepreneurship to International Banking. She has worked in Healthcare since earning her undergraduate degree at UC Irvine. Trisha’s interests lie in the virology behind HIV Infection and how to help those affected and infected manage this now chronic condition by addressing social as well as clinical implications.
Veltria Roman(she/her)
Veltria D. Roman is a nonprofit executive and human resources leader with more than 20 years of experience helping mission-driven organizations strengthen their people, operations, and financial sustainability. Her background spans executive leadership in nonprofit theater, finance, technology, governance, and human resources, bringing a strategic and collaborative perspective to every organization she serves. Currently, Veltria serves as Director of Human Resources at St. John’s Episcopal School and as a Senior HR Consultant, partnering with organizations on compliance, leadership development, organizational effectiveness, and workplace culture. As a member of the Shanti Orange County Board of Directors, Veltria is honored to support the organization’s mission of reducing isolation, fostering connection, and improving the quality of life for individuals living with HIV/AIDS and other vulnerable members of the community. She brings thoughtful leadership, a servant’s heart, and a deep commitment to helping nonprofits thrive. A wife and proud mother, Veltria enjoys singing and performing whenever her favorite role, “Brooklyn’s Mama,” allows. In 2023, Orange Coast Magazine recognized her as one of its Kick-Ass Women for her leadership and service to the arts community.
Judy Mina-Ballard(she/her)
Judy Mina-Ballard is the Founder/ President of HRnow!, INC. since 2001. She has been a leader in HR for the past 36 years. She has studied Broadcast Journalism, Musical Theatre performance and Human Resources Administration. Judy has been a regional theatre performer throughout California. Judy has served on several Boards, including Chamber of Commerce, Business Network International and Reach For It (RFI). RFI is dedicated to supporting the global community of artists and performers at all stages of development. Additionally, Judy is in the process of becoming a licensed wildlife rehabber and has fostered several neighborhood squirrels. Judy is a Mom, Partner and social justice warrior to all creatures big and small.
Donald Shum
Donald Shum is a first generation Chinese-American, born and raised in Southern California. He has worked in the restaurant industry for the better part of two decades, and is an aspiring musician/DJ by night. As a humanitarian and advocate for the LGBTQ+ community, Donald was brought on board at Shanti to assist the agency in furthering its mission in Orange County. He considers himself a gardener of sorts, stating “My goal in this life is to plant seeds of light, love, thought, and inspiration.”
Andrew Nguyen(he/him)
Andrew has worked in the data analytics, forecasting and AI space for almost the past 10 years. Before that, he floated around the idea of working in film or becoming a ballroom dance instructor. He currently works at Yum! Brands as a senior data scientist who is often seen as a jack of all trades that can work with many different teams and in many spaces. Though he loves technology and its future potential, Andrew values being grounded to the world around him and loves removing himself from the digital world at times to enjoy the arts, nature, new corners of the world and growing more in mental health. You can often find him solo traveling through the US or to new countries across the globe; ever so expanding his horizons and challenging himself in many ways. He's been volunteering in areas where he can be a mentor to others, such as Big Brothers Big Sisters of OC for the past 5 years, and joined the Shanti board of directors to make a difference in his community and people's lives through his various knowledge and expertise.
